Many people post content on their social media pages, but
don’t evaluate the performance of their social presence. There are a few questions
we should be asking ourselves. How do we measure success on our social media
pages? What should our key performance indicators (KPIs) be? What are the goals
we are trying to achieve? These are all questions that we should have the
answers to. If you are not able to answer these questions, it is important and
crucial that you find out these answers.
Below are some KPIs that are common among many companies:
ENGAGEMENT
Engagement could be classified as likes on your posts,
shares, and comments. It is important to measure engagement to understand what
posts are performing well, and alter your content based on the results.
TRAFFIC
When you link a post to a landing page, it is important to measure
how many people are clicking through to the website.
FOLLOWING/LIKES
This may include likes on your company Facebook page, or
followers on the LinkedIn page. Increasing a following on the social media
sites will result in higher engagement on social posts as well.
Don’t just post random content. Analyze results, and create
a content strategy around the high performing posts. Understand your audience
and what makes them engage.
Kayli, I wonder if KPIs are more useful for smaller niche brands or larger companies looking to be considered; I would venture it could be more profitable for the niche company on social media in the short term.
